Family Crisis Council

 

The Family Crisis Council provides services to members of the community who are involved in physical abuse and violence, and assists adults and children who are abused or sexually assaulted.

Services:
Telephone counseling: Crisis intervention counseling is available on a 24-hour basis.

Emergency temporary shelter: Emergency temporary shelter is available for up to 45 days for victims of domestic violence and their children.

Counseling Services: Counseling is available for individuals and families who are victims of sexual, emotional or physical abuse.

Rape and Sexual Assault Program: Assistance is available to victims of rape or sexual assault through the medical center, police and court procedures. Support groups are available to adult females who were victims of child sexual assault.

Alternatives: The Alternatives program is a 26-week abuser treatment program for domestic violence offenders. Its format and curriculum are in compliance with guidelines from the NC Department of Administration and the NC Council for Women. Most participants in the program are enrolled by court order. This program does charge a fee.

Support groups: Support groups are available in a variety of areas related to family and personal issues. Groups are organized as needed and meet on a regular basis. Call 704-636-4718 for time and location of programs.

Preventative Programs/Public Awareness: Programs are available to the public through educational classes, workshops, and community presentations. Prevention programs are provided to schools, businesses, and other organizations on the topics of family violence, rape, incest and sexual abuse.

HERO: The acronym stands for Help, Encouragement and Recognition of Child Observers of domestic violence. This small group curriculum provides direct services to children who have been identified as living in violent homes.
